Enright Osteopathy was recommended to Kathy as a potential treatment for her reoccurring severe headaches. She was suffering regularly, with blurred vision, dizziness, light sensitivity and pain behind both eyes, which had become worse since a neck massage two weeks earlier. Thankfully, osteopathy can often help relieve the muscular tensions which are causing these types of headache.
Kathy – Tension headaches
Tests
We spent some time testing the joints of the neck, shoulder and upper thoracic spine, palpating and articulating the muscles and joints. A positive Spurling’s test soon confirmed where the issue lay.
Diagnosis
Cervicogenic headaches are common in people with neck and shoulder problems. Kathy’s C2, C3 and C4 vertebrae of the neck were rotated slightly to the left, irritating the nerves in the area and causing the headaches.
Treatment
Soft tissue massage and myofascial massage of the neck and shoulder area, along with progressive articulations and tractions soon brought significant relief. A high velocity thrust helped to alleviate the restriction in the neck, allowing free movement of the joints.
Results
Kathy had been suffering these types of headaches for many years, but after three treatments the issue was resolved. We haven’t seen Kathy since.
